Frequently Asked Questions

What is Task Force 47?

Task Force 47 is a collection of high quality Star Trek PBEM (Play by E-mail), PBB (Play by Board) and PBW (Play by Web) rolepaying games. We sim in the post-Nemesis era of the Star Trek universe. We are also part of a larger community known as Obsidian Fleet.

How do I sim / play?

Take a look through the Player Resources link (or handily at the top of every link in this site). It is a great area for new and old players alike. It will give you the essentials of "how to" to get you started.
The most important thing to remember is to be respectful of others and to follow the Ten Rules to SIM By

What does 'play by email', 'play by board', & 'play by website' mean?

These are the three different ways to sim. Each sim in Task Group 47A uses one of these in which to sim. They mean:

PBEM: Play By EMail - posts are sent and received via email
PBB: Play By Board - posts are made and viewed on a bulletin board or forum
PBW: Play By Web - posts are made and viewed on a website (sometimes received via email)

Are there any rules?

Yes, there are rules. Each sim has their own rules to ensure that every player has the opportunity to sim in a fun and safe environment. To view just visit our Sims & Staff page and select a sim to see their rules.

How do I join?

Follow the link to the Join Page on this site and follow these simple steps:
  • 1. Visit the sites that are listed there that need you. If you're not interested in those, simply use the top nav bar and head to the Staff pages to browse the Task Groups and their SIMS.
  • 2. Take your time to fill out the application. Again, check with that Player Resources.
  • 3. Make a Bio - consult this source for some instruction.
  • 4. Sample Post

I've never done this before, can I get some help?

We welcome new and experienced players to Task Force 47. If you're new, there's a section on all Apps that allow you to state your level of experience. There would be the perfect place to say you've never done this before. It's OK to say that. Really. Part of a CO's job is to spot talent and nurture it along. If you're willing to learn, we're willing to mentor.

In addition, Obsidian Fleet has a Cadet Academy which will give you some basics. If your commanding officer decides to enroll you in the Academy throw yourself into it and report to your CO your questions. There is no such thing as a stupid question.
The Cadet Academy was designed to help you with getting to know the fleet. It also has a specific lesson on bio creation and sets you up to do a little sample simming with your instructor.

Never forget, your crewmates are a great resource. Part of SIMming is comraderie. Get to know your fellow crewmates and you will find the experience so much more rewarding and fun!

I have a few more questions, can I talk to a real person about them?

The Staff page will lead you to linked email addresses of all of the CO's in this Task Force. Check out the IRC links on the Player Resources and don't forget our Forum. Post a question! Chances are, someone else has been thinking that same thing, too. It's also a great way to get to know your fellow Task Force friends..
